The Kiel Institute for the World Economy is seeking applicants for the position of

Data Analyst

for a third-party funded research and policy advice project

We are looking for a data analyst to join our new research and policy advice project, ‘Industrial Policy Lab’. In this role, you will work at the intersection of research and policy, applying advanced data analysis methods to evaluate industrial policy measures in Germany and worldwide.

The full-time position is based in our Research Hub in Berlin. We are looking for people who are enthusiastic about data analysis and data-centered research in the field of industrial policy and want to contribute to impactful and innovative research projects in this field.

This position offers you a unique opportunity to take on responsibility in a dynamic research and policy advisory environment. You will lead data collection and analysis for research and policy advise projects of the Industrial Policy Lab, our new project aiming at monitoring and evaluating industrial policy measures in Germany and the world. As a data analyst, you will work closely with the project team, headed by a leading professor of economics, and develop tools and methods in order to analyze diverse data on industrial policy. Your main responsibilities will include supporting the research team in data analysis and independently developing a monitoring methodology for industrial policy measures using textual analysis, in close coordination with the project lead.

The main tasks include

  • Collection, processing, and analysis of data related to industrial policy research
  • Development of data-driven monitoring tools and methodologies
  • Preparation of reports and data visualizations for policy recommendations

This position is ideal for people who want to expand their knowledge and experience of scientific data analysis projects at the interface of research, politics and communication.

Your profile:

Required:

  • Completed master's degree in a relevant field (e.g. economics, data science, computer science studies)
  • Proven experience in data analysis
  • Fluent in English (C1)
  • Excellent data visualization and communication skills, particularly in the preparation of reports and policy analysis
  • Structured and independent way of working

An advantage:

  • Knowledge of science management, policy advice or science communication
  • Experience in working in scientific research
  • Experience with textual analysis and natural language processing (NLP) is a plus
  • Understanding of economic policy issues, in particular industrial policy

The position offers a competitive salary according to the German public service salary scale (Entgeltgruppe EG 12 TV-L). The contract is for the duration of the project (until 31.12.2027) with the possibility of an extension. It is scheduled to begin as early as possible.
