Global Economic Symposium postponed

Prof. Dennis J. Snower, President of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy and of the Global Economic Symposiums (GES):
“The political situation in Turkey is currently characterized by great uncertainty, and further developments are unpredictable. In agreement with our Turkish partners and considering planning safety, we have decided to postpone the GES in Istanbul until further notice.
I greatly appreciate the support of H.E. Mehmet Şimşek, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, and of the Governor and staff of the Central Bank of Turkey, and look forward to convening a GES meeting in Istanbul at an appropriate time in the future. We thank our Turkish partners for their engagement and look forward to keeping them involved with the GES process of global problem-solving.”
The next GES will be held in May 2017 in Berlin. There, concrete output of the T20 process, which is led this year by the Kiel Institute and the German Development Institute/Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), will be discussed and presented to support and advise the German G20-Presidency and future G20 summits. The “Think Tank 20” group is the G20 nations' coalition of research institutions and think tanks. IfW and DIE plan to reorganize the T20 activities, in order to establish an ongoing process beyond the German G20 Presidency.
